A renowned lecturer at the Department of Publishing Studies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Mr. Isaac Kofi Appiah has unveiled his third literary opus, "Talking with Pen: Mastering Pen Drawing Technique." The launch held on 28th February 2024 at the Great Hall of the University, was attended by faculty, students of the Faculty of Arts, and literary lovers.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson commended Mr. Appiah's meticulous craftsmanship evident in the thoughtfully written and detailed book. She recounted her childhood experiences with pencil drawings and emphasised the therapeutic benefits of drawing. She pledged her support for endeavours that promote artistic expression and academic excellence.
Kwaku Oppong Amponsah Esq., the General Manager of Adwinsa Publications, Accra, lauded the book's publication, underscoring its international calibre and potential to transcend borders. He applauded Mr. Appiah's dedication and the collaborative efforts of editors in bringing the book to fruition. He emphasised the transformative power of literature, encouraging aspiring authors and artists to pursue their creative aspirations. “As a publisher, it is our mission to champion such literary works to send a message to the rest of the world that Ghana does not only have gold as a mineral resource, but we also have golden talents that the world can explore,” he remarked.
The Provost of the College of Arts and Built Environment (CABE), Professor John Tia Bugri, praised the Mr. Isaac Kofi Appiah on his dedication to putting his techniques, skills, and ideas in a book to share with the artistic world. He expressed optimism that "Talking with Pen" would resonate with people globally, elevating the profile of KNUST on the international stage.
Professor Akwasi Asabere Ameyaw, Former Vice-Chancellor of University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and the Methodist University, commended Mr. Appiah's talent, and foresight, emphasising the profound impact of art on mental health and well-being. Reflecting on Mr. Appiah's legacy, he underscored the enduring significance of artistic expression in immortalising the human experience.
Speaking on his work, Mr. Isaac Kofi Appiah, delved into the essence of pen drawing, debunking myths, and highlighting its transformative potential. He declared his divergence from the norm of pencil drawing, having honed his skills in pen drawing. He credited some of his students as "living legends" and dedicated a portion of a chapter in the book to their influence and inspiration, and expressed gratitude to his mentors, supervisors, and all supporters who contributed to the realisation of his artistic vision. Highlighting the importance of pen drawing, he noted that it can boost one’s confidence, mitigate stress, and foster mental well-being. He emphasised the role of artists as interpreters of dreams, bridging the gap between authors and readers.
The book was officially launched by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ellis Owusu-Dabo and auctioned by Mrs. Precious Kodo, CEO of Treasure Kids Newspaper, and WIT School.
